Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Does installing a remote starter void my factory warranty?

A:  No, Dealerships can not void any warranty by law of the Magnuson Moss Act.  Download a PDF with more details HERE

Q:  What is "Paging" or "2way"?

A:  This feature allows you to receive feedback from your remote to let you know that the unit received the start signal from you and that it started in situations where you are unable to see your vehicle.

Q:  Do I still have to carry my factory key fob?

A:  All Push-To-Start, Turn Knob and Intellikey style cars must carry their factory key fob. Any car with a flip key or remote style key where the buttons are built onto the key itself must also carry their key. Any car with a separate fob from their actual key can replace their factory fob with the new remote start fob.

Q:  Should I put all functions possible on the new remote?

A:  Yes, I always suggest this to make sure that you are able to still retain all functions you previously had while the vehicle is remote started. But this is not always possible, especially with cars that have dealer installed alarm/keyless systems. Because those systems are not truly "factory" installed, usually you will need to give up those functions in some manner.

Q:  Can I have a remote start on my manual transmission vehicle?

A:  Yes, I carry brands that have built in safety precautions designed specifically for manual transmission cars.

Q:  Can someone steal my car after I remote start it?

A:  No, There is a couple built in protection devices to prevent theft, even with a manual transmission.

Q:  Do I still need my key to drive my car?

A:  Yes, your key is still needed to actually drive the vehicle anywhere.

Q:  Will my car just stay running if I don't get in it?

A:  No, all units have a built in timer and you can also stop the engine on all the remotes.

Q:  Will the starter work through walls?

A:  Yes, it will work through most anything, but anything between you and your vehicle will be considered interference and may reduce the effective range of the unit.

Q:  Can the remote start turn on my heated seats or rear defrost?

A:  Yes, this is sometimes possible, but with some units you may have to give up some other function to accommodate this feature or purchase a higher level unit depending on the vehicle wiring requirements to activate.

Q:  Can I use my remote start in the warmer months?

A:  Absolutely, the remote start will turn on the blower to whatever settings you left it at when you exited the vehicle. So if you left the A/C on, then the A/C will come on when you remote start.

Q:  Where are the wire connections made in the vehicle?

A:  Most if not all wire connections are made inside the vehicle cabin, typically on the driver side behind the dash panel. On some vehicles there maybe be 1-2 connections made under the hood of the vehicle.
